As a woman who had access to higher education, I have always found myself fighting to be able to work. I was told that I would have to get ahead of the competition if I wanted to earn a place in the workforce. Learning my trade. Finding a job. Excelling at it. The usual.

Since I became an expat and mother though, there is also this other fight that I have been having: the right to be able to continue working. If it was not for WFH policies during COVID, I would most likely be forced to quit my career as managing my household, a newborn routine which includes daycare, my mental and emotional self would be challenging if not impossible. I fight hard, everyday, to continue being a part of the workforce. I fight with all my might to be able to continue to work. The struggle for women is REAL.

Working from home enables me to continue my career.

Working from home enables me to have an income and support my family.

Working from home allows me to take care of my health.

Working from home enables me to have quality time for myself and with my loved ones.

Working from home supports me in managing my day to day.

Working from home enables me to WORK.

Recapping the fight women before me always had to have to be able to earn their daily bread, the suffragettes and other women’s rights movements come to mind. Today is no different: we continue to fight for our rights. Choosing to work from home should be any person, any woman’s right. I will always fight to be able to continue to work remotely until this is not a fight but a right.
